Clubs, action, and affinity groups thrive on campus. Students leaders at College Prep have created a wide range of service and experiential learning programs for the community that are accessible to and appropriate for persons of all experience and interest levels to engage in awareness raising, effective advocacy, and meaningful action for social justice and service leadership. Early in the year the school holds a Clubs Fair so that students can learn about and join the clubs that interest them, or they can start their own.

  • Asian American Association

    AAA fosters an involved Asian community at College Prep. We celebrate holidays, watch movies, tell stories, host discussions, and eat awesome food together. While all of us hail from different backgrounds, cultures, and experience our Asian American identity differently, we see AAA as a tent pole, turning College Prep’s diversity into our biggest strength. You can see this through our various collaborations with all types of clubs, and the enormous potlucks we host every year. Everyone, Asian or not, is welcome to join.
  • CPS Protecting Animal Welfare

    CPS PAW is a club centered around animal volunteerism. In addition to on campus activities like pet toy making, fundraising bake sales, and blanket drives, we will bring small groups to volunteer at the Milo Foundation on weekends. Come out if you like dogs and cats!
  • Latinos Unidos

    Our mission is to foster a safe and welcoming environment for members of the College Prep community who identify as Latine. We aim to do this by offering affinity spaces for Latine identifing students and offering meetings and cultural events open to the whole campus that celebrate different latine cultures. 
  • Black Student Union

    The Black Student Union is an affinity space dedicated to Black-identifying students in the College Prep community. BSU is a space to appreciate the diversity of histories, cultures, experiences, and people that make up the African Diaspora here on campus and around the world. We strive to make sure that all Black-identifying students feel comfortable at CPS, and work to make meaningful, long-lasting changes that will enhance equity and belonging in the CPS community.
  • Chinese Culture Club

    CCC @ College Prep aims to share Chinese culture & history with the CPS community while promoting greater understanding and inclusivity. We have plenty of engaging activities lined up for this school year, including but not limited to: celebrations for traditional Chinese holidays such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, movie showings, calligraphy common classrooms, and our annual Lunar New Year potluck! We will also be hosting meetings that cover more serious issues facing Chinese Americans in our world today, especially ones that are underrepresented in the media, with the goal of encouraging dialogue in our community. As always, each meeting will be filled with a plethora of delicious snacks for your enjoyment!
  • Christian Student Fellowship

    "Our mission is to create a welcoming community where individuals can grow in their faith, deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, and support one another in living out biblical principles. Through fellowship, service, and study of God's Word, we aim to cultivate a spirit of love, compassion, and unity, while equipping each member to be a light in the world and make a positive impact for God's kingdom. Open to anyone, we seek to create an environment of respect, where everyone is invited to learn, ask questions, and grow together."
  • College Prep Against Human Trafficking

    College Prep Against Human Trafficking focuses on raising awareness in the CPS community about human trafficking through educational events, charity projects, and fundraisers, in hopes of teaching students the reality of human trafficking and the importance of helping trafficking victims while becoming more vigilant of personal safety.
  • College Prep Climate Action Now

    PrepCAN’s mission is to take steps to directly improve our community’s sustainability, emphasizing action on both an individual and school-wide level. We will hold regular meetings to brainstorm, organize school-wide sustainability projects, and collaborate with College Prep’s other climate organizations in order to enact systemic change toward sustainability. Additionally, we will facilitate communication between climate groups from other schools and those at CPS, to create connections throughout the Bay Area.
  • CPS Community Action Team

    The CPS Community Action Team (CCAT) is a student-led organization dedicated to uniting social justice and community-oriented students at CPS. Our mission is to foster a social justice awareness at CPS through volunteer initiatives and on-campus educational efforts, bridging the gap between our campus and the greater Oakland community. We are committed to empowering students to take action and make a lasting impact within our local community.
  • CPS for Period Equity

    We want to alleviate stress around period care by ensuring that adequate support, beyond just hygiene products, is available at all times within the CPS community and the larger Bay Area. Topics like period product legislation, history, and activism will be covered in our meetings and we aim to host menstrual hygiene product drives throughout the year. Above all, we believe that everyone deserves access to menstrual resources: period. 
  • DIRT

    DIRT aims to cultivate sustainability and wellness on campus through gardening.
  • East African Alliance

    The East African Club is a place where students that come from that background feel that they have a comfortable space where they can express their culture with one another. Since there isn’t many of us, we want to aim to help the people back home in East Africa, starting with Eritrea and Ethiopia. We will collaborate with other schools and clubs, host events, have fundraisers and clothes drives, where everyone can work to support the less resourced areas while learning more about the culture. 
  • Feminists' Union

    The Feminists' Union is a safe community on campus for people to discuss issues surrounding gender inequality, take action to make CPS a more supportive place for female-identifying students, learn from one another, and celebrate feminism. We believe in intersectional feminism and that people of ALL genders can be feminists.
  • Filipino Student Association

    Filipino Student Association aims to introduce Filipino culture to non-Filipino students and cultivate a safe and fun space for Filipino students to bond and learn about our own culture. We will also discuss Filipino history and its effects on present Filipino society and culture.
  • Gender Sexuality Alliance

    Our mission is to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive space for students of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Our meetings are dedicated to fostering understanding, respect, and acceptance within our school community.
  • Green Team

    Green Team brings College Prep together through events to spread awareness and encourage activism about environmental issues and climate change, and their relevance to our lives.
  • HER (heritage, empowerment, and resilience)

    Our mission is to cultivate a safe, empowering, and inclusive space where all Bipoc woman can connect, support, and uplift one another
  • Japanese Culture Club

    Japanese Culture Club aims to foster a more inclusive environment on campus by promoting Japanese culture and history. We hope to advance a more nuanced understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture through club meetings that introduce the community to various cultural holidays, traditions, and food.
  • Jewish Student Union

    The Jewish Student Union aims to create spaces where Jews at College Prep can connect with each other, have discussions, and celebrate being Jewish while also sharing our values and culture with the wider College Prep community.
  • Korean Club

    Korean Club works to both celebrate Korean culture through food, movies, and games, and to raise awareness about Korean history and social issues. From holding a kimbap-making workshop to presenting a slideshow on the topic of comfort women, Korean Club is a place to share favorite past-times as well as a place to discuss important issues.
  • Middle Eastern and North African Association

    The Middle Eastern and North African Association (MENAA) strives to create a space for students with this shared regional heritage to connect and celebrate Middle Eastern and North African cultures. Our goal is to educate the College Prep community on Middle Eastern and North African traditions, histories, and customs, acknowledging both the similarities and differences between the wide range of cultures represented within the label of “MENA.”
  • Muslim Students Association

    The Muslim Student Association is a student body dedicated to providing a space for College Prep Muslim students to practice their faith comfortably. We provide a space for prayer and a space for discussions involving the Muslim community and other intersectional communities, as well as discussions regarding elements of the Islamic faith and its history.
  • Neurodiverse Affinity Group

    A space were neurodiverse students can come to together to safely talk about their experiences and brainstorm ideas to improve their experience at College Prep. Additionally, we hope to educate others who are neurotypical.
  • South Asian Alliance

    The South Asian Alliance serves as a space to celebrate and discuss South Asian culture at College Prep by doing work which ranges from festival celebrations to discussions about current events to fundraisers. The goal of the club is to create and sustain an environment which allows South Asian students to feel comfortable in their skin and heritage, and foster a community which is accepting of all cultural traditions, not just those belonging to South Asia. We aim to represent both those from all South Asian countries and their diasporas.
  • Student with Disabilities Club

    This is a community space for students with physical, medical, or mental disability. We endeavor to educate our able-bodied peers while also providing support, affinity meetings, and advocacy for disabled-identifying students.
  • Students for Healthcare Policy, Legislation, and Transformation

    Students for Healthcare Policy, Legislation, and Transformation (SHPLAT) is a club aimed at educating and advocating for students within the context of the American health care system. We aim to educate on both contemporary policy and its socio-politico-historical roots, as well as advocate for policy/legislation change and transformation. 
  • Students with Interracial Lives

    Our mission is to provide a space for and about mixed race students to discuss what being mixed means to them, and how it affects their lives. We wanted to provide this space because the very real and visible reality of race in America is important to address not just through a binary lens. Although spaces where multi-ethnic and cultural people can meet, race has a political significance that is often talked about in terms of one single group, and only identified with that group. We believe that race is a social construct set up to enforce a white supremacist system, but we also need to function within a system before we can change it.
  • Taiwan Affinity Club

    Taiwan club aims to foster community between Taiwanese-American students. 
  • The Organization of Friendly Vegetarians

    A sustainable salute to all things vegetarian! Together, we hope to spread eco-friendly eating ideas to the CPS community, proving that being vegetarian isn't just eating plain tofu, but so much more delicious than that! Our events will include, recipe making, potlucks, group cooking sessions, and we hope to finish off the year with a school-wide cookbook!

  • Finance Club

    Our goal is to enjoy and learn about economics, personal finance, and monetary systems. 
  • Microfinance Club

    An exploration of not only Microfinance, but all forms of socially conscious entrepreneurship that change lives and uplift communities. 
  • Venture Capital Club

    The Venture Capital Club focuses on understanding the factors that drive private investors (venture capitalists) to invest in technology startups. We will discuss case studies and grade real-life startups pitching for feedback. We will also bring guest speakers and hold workshops on market sizing, technological strength, and investment return potential. Join us on a fun ride to learn about investment criteria, techniques, and the mindset of venture capitalists.

    The Young Voters Club is a club dedicated to increasing youth participation in politics, especially with the upcoming election. Through phone banking and fundraisers, we strive to find ways to foster civic engagement on and off campus.

  • Baking Club

    Baking Club is a celebration of baking and pastry and all things sweet and savory. We will introduce baking as a source of joy for our school's students. We hope this club empowers beginners to bake with more confidence and enjoyment, as well as provide a community and welcome challenge for seasoned bakers. Some our events include cookie exchanges, Piesgiving, tea parties, technical workshops, and so much more.
  • Bird Club

    Bird Club aims to bring people together to learn about, conserve, celebrate, and watch birds. Whether you're just casually curious or a seasoned bird nerd, we'd love to have you! We'll go birding, watch documentaries, volunteer to conserve bird habitats, and so much more!
  • Board Games Club

    From the ancient game of senet, to modern day Clue, board games have been the backbone of human society. Our first memories are spent playing games and learning more about the world. From Chess we can learn the complexity of warfare; Chutes and Ladders teaches us that with any step forward, you will take two steps back; Monopoly demonstrates to us the stochasticity and unpredictability of capitalism. Our club seeks to demonstrate, not just what fun can be had in between classes, but also what purpose strategy and logic have to us in the modern day.

    Whether you're an avid chess lover or just getting acquainted with the pieces, chess club is the right place for you! We hope to bring together a community of chess players and nurture a love and appreciation for the game. Game Theory and Gelato Club, or GTG, delves into the intricate world of strategic thinking, negotiation, and conflict resolution, with gelato as a reward. Whether you're a seasoned strategist or a curious novice, Game Theory and Gelato Club offers a stimulating and inclusive environment to expand your strategic thinking with your peers.     Our goal is to create a fun and engaging learning environment where students can enhance their knowledge and skills through the interactive game Gimkit. We believe in combining education with entertainment to foster a love for learning, teamwork, and friendly competition. By participating in our club, students will not only improve their academic abilities but also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a supportive and enjoyable setting.
  • Girlz Gainz

    Providing girls with a welcoming and open space to safely experiment in the gym, Girlz Gainz seeks to promote community fitness and wellbeing.
  • Granny Club

    Join Granny Club as we make time to relax, chat, work, and brag about the accomplishments of our grandkids on our granny-related projects (including crochet, knitting, and sewing)! Learn to make bags, hats, sweaters and more with other aspiring grannies. No crafting experience necessary— we are happy to teach. Being a grandmother is also not required, but is strongly encouraged. Hooks, yarn, and fabric will be provided, but bringing your own granny-related project is encouraged (all crafting projects are welcome)! We will also have snacks, tea & music. See you there!
  • Hawaiian AV club

    We will be watching films, documentaries, and other general media made by Hawaiian artists. It will be a time to appreciate Hawaiian art and culture. Each session will end with analyzing and discussing whatever we watched. It will be a chill and non affinity zone. Come hang out!
  • Magic: the Gathering Club

    Magic: the Gathering is a trading card game that has been around for 30 years now. Our goal is to provide a safe space where both new players and veterans can play, explore and learn the game. We will play a variety of different formats, namely among Commander, casual 60 card format without an banlist (unless we need one), and limited.
  • Only Connect Club

    What comes next in this sequence: E 15, S 30, W 45, ? Come to find the answer to this question and more. We like to promote trivia, general knowledge, and pattern recognition.
  • Origami Club

    Origami Club is a place to share our love for the Japanese art of origami! Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, we believe origami is for everyone to learn + practice. 
  • Ping Pong Club

    Our mission is to create a space for players of all skill levels to enjoy their passion for the sport of ping pong, or more formally called table tennis. Additionally, the club will also incorporate different games involving ping pong balls. We aim to blend skill development with fun events, fostering both personal growth in technique and strategy as well as a strong sense of community and interaction.
  • Poker Club

    We play poker and teach poker strategy.
  • Quiz Bowl

    Quiz Bowl blends trivia and factoids with fun competition and teamwork. We compete in tournaments outside of school as well as hosting the CPS all-school trivia contest. Meetings will include a variety of topics, including history, science, pop culture, literature, math, and more. Show of your intellectual prowess or random facts and learn something cool in the process!
  • Racquet Masters

    We are the Racquet Masters! This is a space for new and experience players to learn, teach, and play badminton and pickleball.
  • Snow Sports

    Our goal is to build an environment centered around maximizing progression in effort to eventually huck your dream rotation.
  • Soccer Club

    Our mission for the Soccer Club is to interest people in the worlds biggest game through soccer updates and news, as well as holding small sided futsal matches in the gym. For people who are interested in the technical aspect of soccer, we will be taking a dive into analyzing the film of both professional teams and our own CPS soccer team.

  • Wasian Identity Network

    The Wasian Identity Network offers a space to explore, empower, and celebrate Wasian identity and culture. We aim to foster discussions on the nuances of being both White and Asian—exploring how this dual identity shapes our experiences and sense of self. Through affinity meetings, fusion food potlucks, and celebrating cultural holidays, we evaluate and ask ourselves what it means to be Wasian, and strive to share our growing and unique culture.

  • ArtsMag

    Every year, the student-run ArtsMag team collects sketches, paintings, photos, poems, short stories, and sculpture from College Prep students. With these submissions, we create a cohesive publication using Adobe Indesign to celebrate the artistic skills of our community. During the last week of school, the magazines distributed in a launch party.
  • Book Club

    We are committed to spreading our love for reading across the College Prep community through sharing our favorite books during our monthly meetings. We will engage with readings by hosting discussions, watching movie adaptations, and participating in activities and eating foods relating to the books. All levels of readers and recommendations are always welcome!
  • Classical Music Club

    Welcome to Classical Music Club! Our goal is to create a space where people can collectively appreciate classical music. We host both informative meetings about composers and chill study sessions with classical music in the background. Whether you are an avid classical musician or not, Classical Music Club would love to have you!
  • Creative Writing Club

    The Creative Writing Club is a place for students to explore a form of writing that embraces self-expression and creativity, fostering a welcome environment without any expectations or pressure. We encourage anyone to join, whether they love to write, or want to try something new.
  • Film Analysis Club

    Film analysis club is devoted to helping our club members better understand the aspects of film that are both intentional and powerful. Focusing on execution of story, type of shot, placement of characters, and more generates new appreciation for films and directors. We will work together to draw more meaning from scenes of movies or episodes of TV shows, and perhaps connect some back to the original book! We will have months dedicated to genres, and food at most meetings!
  • Geography Club

    Geography club seeks to bring people together in a fun environment in which they can learn world geography. Activities will include presentations and games.
  • Latin Club

    Latin Club is a place to discuss Latin, Greek and Roman mythology, and any other Rome-related topics. We will usually be playing Certamen (Roman trivia), other games like Pictionary, or simply chatting about Latin-related subjects. This year, we will also be joining the JCL (Junior Classical League) for competitions! You do not have to be a Latin student to join: you will be able to participate in all of our activities without ever having taken a Latin class. If you are excited about Greek or Roman mythology, need help with Latin homework, or just want a casual space to spend your Wednesday lunch, don't hesitate to drop by!
  • Leatherworking Club

    Leatherworking club celebrates the ancient and beautiful tradition of crafting with leather. Not only will we celebrate this tradition, but we will practice it as well! Join us over the course of the year to learn to care for leather and create wallets, bags, belts, and more. There is space for those of all levels of leather workers, from beginners to masters, to learn and share their creations.
  • Linguistics and Languages Club

    Linguistics and Languages Club aims to explore how language works, connects us, and shapes the world around us through scientific, social, and cultural perspectives. From a baby's first words and a teenager's online slang to a linguist's jargon and a grandparent's dated sayings, we celebrate the beauty of language as the most essential and fundamental aspect of being human.
  • Movement & Making Arts Club

    We aim to foster a fun environment in which the CPS community can enjoy exploring different styles of art (visual, dance, etc.) and bond with other people along the way! Through activities such as mural painting, lunch and common classroom meetings, and field trips, M&M strives to bring art to everyone, regardless of skill level.
  • Music Production Club

    Providing a space for all producers and music-makers alike to make and learn about music. All skill levels are welcome!
  • Photography Club

    We look to facilitate a low pressure club where people can get feedback on their photos, improve, and enjoy photography. 
  • Poetry Club

    Poetry club is a space to interrogate and reflect on who we are as we read and write poems and contribute to the Steele: CPS's poetry newsletter. Whether you want to revel in thought or speak out against injustice, we hope that writing as an art can help you record and remember those special moments while making many more. We can’t wait to see you, and we wish you happy sondering and sundering!
  • Spirit Dance Team

    Bringing spirit to school events with halftime performances and creating space to build community through dance!
  • toki pona club

    toki pona is a minimalist constructed language with only around 130 words! Many have learned toki pona for its simplicity, its thriving community, the help it provides in analyzing and breaking down complex concepts, and most importantly because it's fun! toki pona club aims to spread toki pona's community to CPS by teaching it, offering speaking practice during club meetings, and exploring some bits of tokiponist culture.

    A safe and casual space to share art, stories, and ideas through zines. If you like to create, come and join us!

  • Architecture Club

    This club strives to inspire high school students through the exploration of architecture and design. Our goal is to cultivate creativity, appreciation, and understanding for the built environment by engaging in hands-on projects, guest speakers, and collaborative learning. 
  • Artificial Intelligence Club

    The College Prep AI Club’s mission is to create a platform where students will learn about Artificial Intelligence, share & discuss developments in AI technology, and explore the ethical ramifications of AI principles in various fields. We will delve into technologies such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Claude, learn about the programming & software behind them, and practice how to best (ethically) use these tools to our advantage. We will even learn how to build our own functioning AI models! 
  • Computer Science Team

    The Computer Science Team is an innovative space for coders of all skill levels to come together and learn about programming. We prepare together and compete in several competitive computer science contests, but our club is also open to anyone who wants to learn or sharpen their coding abilities in a creative environment. 
  • Game Design Club

    College Prep Game Design Club tackles all things game design, from video games to board and card games. Learn the basics of making a game loop, how to use various software that goes into making games of any kind, and maybe participate in larger scale events like game jams. If you’re interested in learning how to make a game, are already a game designer, or simply love playing games, this club is for you!
  • Kids Teach Tech

    Kids Teach Tech (KTT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching underserved and underrepresented students around the world about coding and technology. KTT has graduated over 8,000 students and has a team of more than 200. We operate from two offices and collaborate with over 25 partners, including U.C. Berkeley, Comcast, NSF, and Georgia Tech. We teach everything from block programming to data science, 3D printing, and AI, available through day-long classes and week-long camps. Learn more about our team and classes at kidsteachtech.com. The KTT Club extends our mission into College Prep by preparing and creating classes, presenting curriculum during CC and club meetings, and reaching out to serve the CPS community.
  • Makers' Club

    We're a group of College Prep students with a passion for creativity, design, innovation, and creation. We aim to build a community of College Prep makers, sharing the joy we find in making while expanding access to the xLab's tools.No experience is necessary to join the club or attend any of the events we hold.
  • Math Club

    Math Club is where you grow your passion for mathematics! Throughout the year, we hold fun presentations, interactive activities, and participate in a slew of competitions. While some events emphasize speed, others focus more on creative thinking and collaboration, aspects that hold greater value to us than any form of competitive success. In the end, we hope to help you find laughter endlessly in the math we experience in our daily lives—the number plates on cars, the sinusoidal waves of sound, the structural designs of modern museums. Be there or be square!
  • Rocketry Club

    Rocketry Club brings together the space enthusiasts of the College Prep campus to discuss, build, and launch our own rockets. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned rocket builder, there's a place for you here. We are happy to have you!
  • Science Olympiad

    Science Olympiad is a STEM organization where students prepare for and compete in science competitions throughout Northern California during the academic school year. Competition events range from engineering towers to studying rock formations in the Sierras. Science Olympiad is a fun, engaging way to explore fields of science with other classmates.
  • Women in Medicine

    Women in Medicine (WIM) is a club created to spread knowledge and appreciation for women in the medical field. Our mission is to empower and support women at CPS who are interested in medicine through mentorship, advocacy, and exposure. By fostering an inclusive environment, we hope to inspire and encourage CPS students to learn more about opportunities for women in medicine, highlighting the importance of feminism in the medical field. We hope to create a foundation of support that will carry young women through medical school, residency, and throughout their careers as doctors.
