welcome alumni

As a College Prep graduate you are a member of the alumni community for life. The College Prep Alumni Office is dedicated to developing deeper relationships. Whether you are driven by the desire to reconnect with old friends, eager to mentor and collaborate with current College Prep students, or looking for opportunities to volunteer and give back to the school, we encourage you to stay engaged and nurture the bonds you share with each other and with the School.
Dear Fellow Alumni,

Hello! For those who don’t know me, I have the distinct privilege, and pleasure, of serving as your Alumni Association Chair. To be perfectly honest, stepping into this position has been wonderful, but has also thrown me for a loop. It feels like only yesterday that I was attending classes on campus and spending free periods hanging out on the gym deck so it feels strange to be coming back to the School now in an entirely new role.

It turns out that I’ve been away from College Prep much longer than it feels—20 years, in fact. That (sobering) realization has prompted me to reflect on all the amazing things the School has given me and how my experiences at College Prep have changed the entire course of my life. Some of my best friends are people that I first met at College Prep, and many of the skills the School helped me develop (such as public speaking through Debate) are still serving me well in my career as a lawyer.
So here I am, hoping to give something back to the place that has given me so much and to connect (or reconnect) with all of you. In the meantime, please reach out if you’re interested in getting updates or engaging with College Prep. I can personally attest that it’s a fulfilling experience.

I’m looking forward to connecting soon.
Chris Sun ‘04
Alumni Association Chair

  • Social Impact Practicum

Do you work in social or environmental justice? Would you be interested in connecting with student groups of seniors as they design their own impact projects, or in inviting a group of students to consult on a project for an organization with which you're affiliated? If you'd like to hear more email alumni@college-prep.org.
  • STEM Research Program

College Prep's STEM program is for students interested in getting hands-on research experience in a broad array of STEM fileds (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). A cornerstone of the program is the summer internship, a four to eight week hands on placement in Labs, academic units, and both for- and non-profit entities across the Bay Area. We appreciate the assistance of College Prep alumni, parents, and their networks to help us find placements for them. The students are excited and well prepared to join a research lab or other type of team, having spent a semester learning about research ethics, decoding academic journals, and basic biostatistical coding, in addition to their other sciences classes. They have embedded with labs at UC Berkeley, UCSF, and many other institutions where mentors constantly sing their praises.

This year we celebrated with 140 alumni and several current and former faculty over a full day of events that included an open gym in Baldwin Gymnasium with alumni from the 70s, a special reception at the Jenks Willis House honoring the class of ’74 celebrating its 50th anniversary and the class of ’99 celebrating its 25th anniversary, and a poetry reading led by former English Teacher Nancy Steele that included several alumni poets. Thank you to all of the alumni who came to celebrate!
