Name: Sophia
Graduation Year: 2029
Middle School: The Hamlin School
Hometown: San Francisco

Campus Involvement: I am on the girls varsity tennis team, and for my arts elective, I did orchestra and chamber music. Both of these activities helped me to develop strong connections with my peers, building a community within arts and athletics to support me outside of academics. In addition, I did Partners during the school year as well as the Partners summer internship program. I am a leader of AAA and a member of CSF and K-Club, and I am also a writing coach.

What has been your favorite class so far (and why)? My favorite class has been math. At the beginning, it was difficult, and I struggled with the pace at which we were learning new material. However, by the end of the year with the support of my teacher and the Learning Center, I was able to fully appreciate math and find satisfaction even when it was hard.

What is your favorite thing about College Prep? My favorite thing about College Prep is the community but specifically the cross-grade relationships. During my visits, I noticed the lack of divisions between different grades, and I valued how that created a deeper connection within the CPS community. At College Prep, I have truly received so much from the upperclassmen, and I hope to pass on everything I have been given. I always feel free to present my authentic self, and the cross-grade friendships have helped me discover more about myself as well.

What is your favorite character from a movie/book/television series? Gloria from Modern Family! She is confident and unapologetically herself.

Three fun facts about me:
  1. I know all the lyrics of the songs from High School Musical (1, 2, and 3!).
  2. I love all things Korean.
  3. I am terrified of birds.
